20050113 Joint Meeting – SBO, SWEPA And IEM Sabah Toastmasters Clubs

Under Area K4 Governor Alice Kunjan's leadership, SWEPA TMC, SBO TMC and IEM S TMC held a joint meeting on 13 January 2005. SBO TMC provided the venue, at their Menara Petronas, Kota Kinabalu. The conference room used was very grand indeed for the meeting. 30 people attended the meeting, including Division K Governor Richard A. Gontusan, DTM, Past District Governor Dr John Lau, DTM and potential members of SBO TMC.

The meeting coincided with Alice's second Area Governor's visit to her clubs. Since it was a joint meeting, Alice made paid a simultaneous visit to all the three clubs involved. TM Rejos Lamudin stood in for the President of SBO TMC, TM Julita Ontol, who was unable to attend the meeting. TM Rejos executed his role well in making everyone feel welcomed at the meeting. As TME, IEM’s TM Willie Chua performed superbly. His warming up session involved getting the participants to imitate the behaviour of selected animals as he narrated a story. Everyone had a good laugh at the antics that ensued.

Table Topics Master, SWEPA’s Alice Wong, CTM conducted a short Table Topics Session as there were 5 manual speakers that evening. Her respondents did well as attested to by the Table Topics Evaluator, Cheryl Udarbe, ATM-B.

The speakers that evening included IEM’s Nicholas Lim, CTM (ATM-B No.5); SBO’s TM Ahmad Izham (C&L No. 3); IEM’s TM Chin Wen Yea (C&L No. 8); SWEPA’s Caroline Chin, CTM (ATM-B No. 8); and SWEPA’s Doreen Lee, CTM (ATM-B No. 8). They were evaluated by KKTMC’s Richard A. Gontusan, DTM; SWEPA’s Annie Cheng, ATM-S; SWEPA’s Doris Lim, ATM-G; IEM’s Cheryl Udarbe, ATM-B and IEM’s Francis Tham, DTM respectively.

SWEPA’s General Evaluator Datin Sue Jayasuriya, ATM-S was impressed with the meeting, and rated it highly. She remarked that the meeting was a success because everyone played his/her role well.

In her Area Governor’s address, Alice congratulated the club presidents for holding the important meeting, which further enhanced fellowship and camaraderie among the participants. She expressed happiness at the clubs’ progress at moving towards their DCP goals, and urged all the club members to be mindful of the Vision and Mission of Division K. She said that by helping the Division achieve its goals, the members themselves will become better Toastmasters.

The meeting was jointly closed by SWEPA President Soo Yuen MEE, ATM-B and IEM STMC President Nicholas Lim, CTM. The meeting met its objectives of being enjoyable and educational at the same time.
