4th Organising Committee Meeting – Division K 9th Annual Convention
- 28 January 2005

Barely two hours from his arrival in Kota Kinabalu after his 3-week work stint in Kuching, the Organising Chairman of the Division K 9th Annual Convention, Andrew Thien, convened the 4th Organising Committee Meeting at Ronald Tang’s office in Penampang at 8.00pm. Andrew had just enough time to have a short reunion with his wife and three sons before coming for the meeting.

During the meeting, Andrew reported that he attended the club meetings of the Connections Toastmasters Club, the host club of the District 51 Semi Annual Convention; and the Fishing Toastmasters Club in Kuching. He added that members of these clubs would be attending the convention in March. He expected 20 Toastmasters from Sarawak to participate in the convention, which is hosted by the Kota Kinabalu Toastmasters Club.

Among the matters discussed during the meeting was the theme of the fellowship night, which is “Expect the Difference, and Live the Magic.” The dress code is “Glamorous,” in which jeans and t-shirts are discouraged.

Dr Arulnathan’s workshop on the “Power of the Sub Conscious” will be a held a day before the convention. During the convention, 4 English workshops will be held, which will be conducted by Dr John Lau, Abu Bakar Sheriff, Datuk Adeline Leong and Geoff Andrew. In addition, there will be 4 Mandarin workshops, which will be conducted by Dr Jacob Yan, Leong Shar Cheong, Dr Wong Kim Poh and Low Yat Seow.

Division K Governor Richard A. Gontusan reported that he had requested the Mandarin Toastmasters to get their members to compete in the Division Level English International Speech and Table Topics Contests to render the contests more exciting and interesting for the participants and audience alike.

The Committee Members, in particular the Marketing Director, James Wong, will aggressively market the convention and the retreat (after the convention) to the Toastmasters in Division K. The Committee urge all Toastmasters who have yet to register to do so promptly to participate in a convention where one can expect to find a difference.
