20041223 DIVISION K SECRETARY VISITS SANDAKAN TOASTMASTERS CLUB

While on a business trip to Sandakan, Division K Secretary Andrew Thien, ATM-G took the opportunity to visit the Sandakan Toastmasters Club on 23 December 2004. His visit coincided with the club’s Christmas Theme Meeting. Some 20 members and guests attended the meeting, which was held at the club’s meeting venue, the Sabah Hotel, Sandakan.

The Toastmaster of the Evening, Dora Chiu, ATM-B, was in her element as she made everyone feel welcomed to an evening of education and excitement. She set the mood of the evening by involving everyone in an exercise that challenged everyone’s thinking faculty at solving word puzzles.

President Luna Chua welcomed everyone to the club’s last meeting for the year, and encouraged the members to complete their CTMs before the end of the term.

The speakers that evening were President Luna Chua, Anne Tan, CTM and Datuk Hassan Alban Sandukong, ATM-G. The General Evaluator was Eleanor Wong, DTM, a past Division K Governor, who remains very active in the club.

During the meeting, Andrew was given the opportunity to promote the Division K 9th Annual Convention, which will be held at the Promenade Hotel, Kota Kinabalu from 19 to 20 March 2005. The response from the club was encouraging. President Luna would do her very best to secure 7 participants from the club.

Towards the end of the evening, Dr Edmond Fernandez was presented with the Best Table Topics Speaker Award. Since it was the club’s Christmas Theme Meeting, the members exchanged gifts among themselves to usher in that special Christmas spirit of giving and sharing.

When asked for his comments toward the end of the meeting, Andrew mentioned that he could feel the members’ camaraderie during the meeting. To him, the meeting was educational, fun-filled and enjoyable.
