Area K4 Mid Term Gathering
- 18 December 2004

If we talk about being resourceful, Area K4 Governor Alice Kunjan is perhaps one of the most resourceful leaders in Division K. To enhance camaraderie and fellowship among the Toastmasters in Area K4, she organised the Area K4 Mid Term Gathering on 18 December 2004 with the help of her members from her home club, SWEPA Toastmasters. About 30 Toastmasters, including club presidents, attended the gathering, which was held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Kota Kinabalu.

It is through gatherings such as this that members are assured that they belong to a learning environment where mutual support is the staple. They know that they can depend on each other for support, and share experiences on how to achieve their Toastmasters goals for themselves as well as for their clubs. Of course, it is also a time to enjoy each other's company.

The gathering was dubbed "Colours of the Rainbow" to add, well, more colours to the event. Since Christmas was just around the corner, the spirit of the season was ushered in through the Santa caps that everyone wore and the gift exchange that followed suit. The food was plentiful, topped with Christmas pudding.

In her speech, Alice welcomed everyone to the gathering, and encouraged them to assist the Division to achieve its vision and mission. Division K Governor Richard A. Gontusan, who was a guest at the event, also addressed the crowd. He encouraged all the Toastmasters to deliver their speeches and to introduce more people to Toastmasters. He added that there is no perfect time to deliver a perfect speech, just as there is no perfect time to bring a friend to a Toastmasters meeting. The time is now.

After the speeches, several games were played to enhance interactions among the participants. Richard and his group won the tongue twister game, an exercise in reading and pronouncing some tongue twisters. The "gossip" game, which required a group to pass a message from one person to the other, left no winners, probably because Toastmasters are not a gossipy lot.

Towards the end of the function, TC Lim was adjudged the most colourfully dressed gentleman while Phyllis Quek walked away with the title of most colourfully dressed lady.

Everyone had a great time at the gathering. Under Alice's leadership the Area K4 Toastmasters have moved forward in their fellowship and camaraderie, ingredients which are essential in teamwork and cooperation, which in turn lead to goal achievement.
