Api-Api Toastmasters Club’s 9th Installation Dinner
- 11 December 2004

After being in limbo for six months without much direction, the members of the Api-Api Toastmasters Club eventually regrouped to revitalise their club under their new president TC Lim, DTM.

The club receives much support from the Area K4 Governor, Alice Kunjan, CTM, who, together with TC Lim, has worked hard to put the club back on course towards achieving its Toastmasters goals for itself and its members.

A brief history of the Api-Api Toastmasters Club: The club started as an in-house club for life insurance agents nine years ago. It was then known as the Life Toastmasters Club. To arrest dwindling membership, the club voted to become a community club a few years ago, and opened its membership to the general public. With this move, the club changed its name to Api-Api Toastmasters Club, and joined the ranks of the other community clubs in the Kota Kinabalu Area - Kota Kinabalu Toastmasters Club, KK Mandarin Toastmasters Club, Pidato Pertama Toastmasters Club and KK Advanced Toastmasters Club. Api-Api is the old name of the city of Kota Kinabalu before it was known as Jesselton.

A simple yet meaningful installation ceremony of the Executive Committee, which was the club's 9th Installation Ceremony, was held at TC Lim's residence on 11 December 2004, commencing at 7.30pm. The Exco comprises the following:

President - T C Lim, DTM
Imm Past President - Joseph Ngoh, CTM
VPE – TM Low Vv Ee
VPM - Melody Chong, ATM-S
VPPR – TM Marilyn Ngu
Secretary – TM Ang San San
Treasurer – TM Peter Chin
SAA – TM Hoo Mui Siew
Committee Members – TM Rachael Ngu and Teo Hui Lan, ATM-B

The members and guests were treated to a sumptuous curry laksa dinner prepared by the new First Lady, Annie Lim.

The club members have pledged to make the most out of the next six months to achieve their goals. Division K Governor Richard Gontusan, DTM, who was a guest at the installation dinner, encouraged the club members to go for the President's Distinguished Club status by making use of the resources available to them in Division K, and to make the most out of their talents as committed and dedicated members of the club.

When we talk about recycled things, we imagine things that have lost their original qualities. However, when we talk about recycled Toastmasters leaders, we know that the leaders come loaded with experience that can help propel a club to great heights. We have every confidence that TC Lim, who is a Past Division K Governor and Past Presidents of KKTMC and KK Advanced TMC, will be able to help the members of the Api-Api TMC close the term with outstanding achievements.

The Api-Api TMC's members are also fortunate to have as their Area Governor, Alice Kunjan, a dedicated, committed and hardworking leader, who is ever ready to help them with their aspirations.

To the not-so-strong clubs in Division K, please take your cue from the Api-Api TMC, and discard your defeatist mindset. With some effort, everything is possible in Toastmasters. With some effort, the learning continues - the magic of Toastmasters takes its positive effects on anyone who wishes to enhance his or her communication and leadership skills.

Congratulations TC Lim, Alice Kunjan and the members of the Api-Api TMC on the occasion of their installation.
